I have the honour to acknowledge the receipt of

your letter No. 92653/32 of the 28th September transmitting

for our observations a copy of a telegram which had been

received from the officer Administering the Government of

Hong Kong regarding the Shing Mun Valley Waterworks

Scheme.

2. Since it was decided to proceed with the above

scheme Messrs. Sir A. Binnie Son and Deacon, the Consulting

Engineers, have been busily employed on the preparation of

the necessary detailed drawings. Their designs have now

reached the stage at which they can give to the Resident

Engineer a plan showing the location and probable extent

of the foundations of the dam, so that arrangements can

be made for excavation to proceed at an early date, and

for the opening of the quarry. The Resident Engineer

expects to reach Hong Kong on the 17th November and the

majority of the staff which it is necessary to send from

this country will we believe arrive in Hong Kong before the

end of the year. In addition the Consulting Engineers

have prepared specifications for the plant required and we

hope it will be possible to invite tenders at an early
